Robert B. Kaufman is a Partner with Health Care Futures L.P.  Bob has more than 30 years of management consulting experience with health care providers, focusing his efforts on organizational strategic positioning, and health system alignment and integration and performance improvement.  Bob has served a wide array of provider and health system clients nationally including regional health care systems, community hospitals, academic medical centers and faculty practice plans and physician groups.  In addition, he has directed and facilitated multiple affiliation, value based care positioning, ambulatory care, payer positioning, and product line positioning studies. Bob brings a strong depth of experience and curiosity to his client work, along with a unique ability to partner with his clients to arrive at fact based and implementable solutions.

 Key Accomplishments

  • Assisted clients identify real-time adjustment strategies (e.g., staff reassignments, telehealth programming) to mitigate negative impacts of COVID-19 state policy decisions on hospital operations
  • Led strategic planning engagements for multiple hospitals, regional health systems and academic medical centers across the country.
  • Facilitated multiple buy- and sell-side M&A transactions including detailed supporting business case assessments.
  • Led evaluation and development of several joint venture and joint operating agreements and relationships.
  • Facilitated health system wide clinical program integration for emerging regional health systems.
  • Led development of comprehensive ambulatory care strategy and business case assessment for large integrated multi-state provider system and payer.
  • Facilitated multiple physician / health system integration efforts including but not limited to medical co-management, PSA, employment, joint venture, PHO and CIN arrangements.
  • Facilitated development of several health system employed physician compensation models.

Background

Prior to joining Health Care Futures, Bob was a senior manager in the strategy practice of another major national health care consulting firm, and before that he spent several years with a large health care system in the Twin Cities.  Bob received both his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in health care administration from the University of Minnesota.  In addition to his consulting career, he has served on multiple community boards including a large not-for-profit long-term care and senior services organization and volunteers regularly.  Bob is a life-long resident of the Twin Cities, living in Minneapolis with his wife Debra.  Both he and Debra are the proud parents of their two adult daughters, Tess and Anna.
